There are various career fields that high school students can choose from that may appeal to their ideals and aspirations in life. For some students, that choice involves serving their country for the greater good and finding their purpose in life. About 1.8 percent of high school students will enlist into the military every year; 0.9 are males and 0.4 are females. While joining the military is an alternative option to college, it can be an opportunity for military workers to expand their knowledge using a G. I. Bill and not worry about college expenses. Not only is the military a great option for some people, it is also an excellent foundation for high school students to build a structured lifestyle.
Seventeen year old Destini Fields chose the Army Reserves since she always had a lot of respect for those who served our country. She said, “I just wanted to give back.” She wanted to have an impact on our country the way her mom served in the Air force. She hopes to be able to travel the world and become an officer to make her mom proud. Destini will be attending college first in hopes of ranking as an officer once she becomes active duty.
There is no doubt that we appreciate all branches of service. David Graciani is looking forward to being a part of something bigger by joining the Marine Corps. He said, “When I think Marine I feel a special connection and brotherhood.” His uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather all served as Marines. He can’t wait for this life changing journey that’s going to be intense but beyond rewarding. He hopes to take doctoral classes to further his education and work in the medical field as a Marine.
