Club Spotlight: Writer's Ink

1/9/2018

Writer’s Ink Club Spotlight
By Kat Franklin

Do you like to read and write? Is your Wattpad fix not good enough for you? Do you need real people to appreciate your writing? Writer’s Ink is the club for you! It’s a no fee, no requirement club; you don’t even have to write! You can also come if you want to hear original creative works or enjoy editing someone’s work- out loud! You’re not sold yet?
But wait! There’s more! Writer’s Ink has parties, insanity, and a binder covered in pickle duct-tape for all their favorite pieces. Sometimes the club meets at member’s houses when we cannot wait for Monday. Writer’s Ink meets every Monday in Ms. Rayle’s room, located in the English hallway, at 2:30. The club meeting ends at 3:15.  Writer’s Ink is alway looking for new members!

Interview with Ms. Rayle, Club Sponsor
  • What is Writer’s Ink all about?
Ms. Rayle: It’s about sharing, writing, and getting feedback. It’s a safe place for writers to express themselves
  • What were your plans for the club when you started it?
Ms. Rayle: It’s for creative writers to have an audience and be with like-minded people. The community makes us better, as does the camaraderie.
  • How does it make students better writers?
Ms. Rayle: The habit of sharing your writing improves the quality.

  • When was Writer’s Ink founded?
Ms. Rayle: It started in 2013?
  • What kind of writing is involved?
Ms. Rayle: Any type of writing is accepted, but the main focus is on creative writing.

  • Do you think Writer’s Ink will continue to be here in coming years?
Ms. Rayle: It will continue as long as it’s needed.

  • What do you do in Writer’s Ink?
Ms. Rayle: During meetings, the students read things they’ve written, talk about each other’s pieces, or create new poems and stories. The students keep a box full of prompts if they’ve had a slow week. It’s always fun to see what they can come up with.

Interview with Parker Jones, Secretary:
  •     Why did you join Writer’s Ink?
Parker: I wanted to be in a community with other writers, and I needed an extra curricular.

  • What do you do in Writers Ink?
Parker: We read the things we’ve worked on over the week, talk about writing, and generally connect.
  •     What’s the best part of Writer’s Ink?
Parker: Being in a friendly community of other writers that you can work with and relate to. Also the fact that it’s an LGBTQ friendly group.
  •     Why should students join it?
Parker:  Being with a group of writers increases productivity, motivation, and inspiration in your writing. It also gives you a support network when you’re suffering from writer’s block.
  • Finally, what’s your favorite memory of the club?
Parker: The first day back this year was amazing, we talked and laughed and all of us were glad to be back.

Statement from Kat Franklin, Vice President:
Writer’s Ink is a club for young writers to come and share their work. All writing is accepted, anything from haikus to horror scripts. No fees are required to join the club, and you can join at any time throughout the year. We usually have parties around Christmas and the end of school, and occasionally we bake for each others’ birthdays. You’re promised two things when you join Writer’s Ink: a safe environment and lots of cookies.
